Stephens County High School basketball teams will return to the Region 8-AAA battlefield Friday night when they host rival Hart County at the Reservation.Tip-off for the girls' game is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the boys to follow.

Friday's contest for the coach Jerry Brown's Lady Indians will be the first since Monday, Dec. 21, when they lost 61-54 to North Forsyth in the final game of the Community Bank and Trust Holiday Classic at Piedmont College.the Lady Indians are 7-3 overall, 2-1 in region play. the Stephens girls have defeated Mountainview and Jackson County in region action while losing to Oconee County in Watkinsville.

Seniors Kimberly Major and Raven Crawford are the offensive catalyst for the Lady Indians, but Brown is looking for the return of sophomore Tatyana Beasley who missed the first 10 games of the season with a foot injury.the SCHS boys will enter Friday's region contest with a 1-2 mark in league play.

Coach Joey Bryson's squad defeated Mountainview in overtime at home and lost to Jackson County and Oconee County in the first three region outings.the Indians won a pair of games in the holiday tournament at Piedmont, but were beaten by Hart County in the finals.

Then came three straight losses in the McDonald's Shootout held at Hart County High School the week after Christmas.In the tournament's first game, Woodmont, S.C. defeated the Indians 67-33. Greg Rousey paced the Stephens offense with 13 points.Hart County downed the Indians 80-38 in the second game of the McDonald's Shootout. Seniors Quan Trammell and Seth Brown provided the offensive spark for the Tribe as each connected on 10 points.Hart County connected on 10 three-pointers in the game.Stephens County's third outing in the tournament was a 71-34 loss to West Mecklenburg, N.C.Antonio Jackson was the leading scorer for the Indians as he recorded 10 points, including a pair of three-point baskets.the Indians played the McDonald's Shootout without the services of 6-7 pivot player Davante Drinkard due to a foot injury.after playing Hart County on Friday, the Indians will host Eastside Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 6 p.m. SCHS teams will go on the road Friday, Jan. 15, when they travel to Carnesville for a Region 8-AAA matchup with Franklin County.
